―Charon, to Pluto in Where does Pluto REALLY come from? | ||
Charon (pronounced like Sharon or Karen) is a character in SolarBalls, as well as the biggest moon of Pluto and his binary partner.
Charon claims that she missed Pluto, and decides to show him the other dwarf planets. She is very kind-hearted and understanding, as shown when she helped Pluto to accept himself as a dwarf planet. She also gave a speech during the episode The Moon Revolution - Part 4, thus stopping the Moon Revolution.
Personality
Charon represents the happy-go-lucky character in SolarBalls. She is an energetic and kind-hearted moon, although sensitive to insults. She also seems to be attached to Pluto, just like how Neptune's tiny moons are attached to Triton.
Charon seems to be very optimistic and caring for others, such as when she attempted to communicate with Ceres. Despite him not talking much, Charon still tried to understand him.
Trivia
- Charon is portrayed as being a bit irregular in shape, which is inaccurate to her true spherical shape.
- Charon and Pluto are additionally portrayed to be the same size, whereas in reality Charon is around half the size of Pluto.
- Charon feels like she's constantly dancing with Pluto, since they orbit around each other tidally locked.
- She is one of fourteen characters to have an opposite gender of the god/goddess they are named after - the other thirteen are Haumea, Thebe, Ceres, Io, Neso, Galatea, Sao, Halimede, Umbriel, Venus, Tethys, Kallichore, and Proxima Centauri.
- Earth and Ariel are debatable. Earth is associated with Gaia, which is an Earth goddess, however the word "Earth" is not associated with any god with any gender. Ariel was a male in an original Alexander Pope play, but more females kept playing his role, and the Disney movie "The Little Mermaid" popularized Ariel as a feminine name.
- Luna is simply Latin for "Moon", so it doesn't have any associated god.
- Titan wasn't named for a god, but was named for the titans, which is a category of gods. This was due to people believing that Titan was the largest moon for a while, until more refined calculations confirmed that Ganymede was the largest.
- Planet X has not been discovered yet, and therefore, has no name.
- Proxima Centauri technically fits in this group because all Centaurs in Greek Mythology were male, the constellation Centaurus was named after Centaurs, and Proxima was named after Centaurus.
- The dark spot on Charon's northern pole is a depiction of Mordor Macula, a large red plateau near the north pole whose origins are still a mystery. Although, a theory suggests that Mordor Macula is reddish in color due to nitrogen from Pluto's escaping atmosphere painting it that color.
- Charon was the third female character to be introduced in SolarBalls, with Astrodude's Wife and Dione coming beforehand.
- Charon is the only moon of a Kuiper Belt Object to appear in SolarBalls.
- S/2015 (136472) 1 (MK2) was mentioned by Makemake, but it hasn't formally debuted yet.
- In real life, Charon isn't the only moon of Pluto; Pluto's other moons are Nix, Styx, Kerberos, and Hydra (the links are their respective Wikipedia pages until they appear in the show).
- Charon's 'lipstick' is grey now, but when she was young, it was a shade of rose pink.
- Charon is actually the oldest moon despite her young nature.
